The 4th "Biweekly Academic Seminar" of the Center in 2019 Was Successfully Held

At 1:30 p.m. on August 5, Dr. Fang Jiang, Department of Psychology, University of Nevada,Reno,USA, was invited to the Center for Psychological Sciences for academic exchanges, bringing to the center a wonderful lecture entitled "Visual and tactile motor processing in early deaf individuals". Researcher Xiaoqing Gao presided over the lecture.

Dr. Fang Jiang mainly engaged in cross-channel research, using EEG and fMRI methods to study the neural mechanism of visual and tactile processing in deaf people.

Over the past decade, researchers have conducted extensive research on the visual and tactile abilities of deaf people in order to understand the neural mechanism of cross-channel plasticity in deaf people after hearing deprivation. Early deaf people showed increased processing activity in some visual and tactile tasks. Studies have shown that the auditory and syncortex of deaf people respond to visual and tactile stimuli. However, the relationship between these responses and their enhanced processing ability is not clear. Dr. Fang Jiang will conduct a series of fMRI and EEG studies on visual and tactile processing in deaf and normal audiences, and find that the activation of STS in the right hemisphere of the brain is stronger than that in normal audiences, which supports the predominant behavioral performance of deaf people in previous studies.

After the wonderful report, Dr. Fang Jiang had a heated academic discussion with the teachers and students on the research prospects and methods. The lecture ended in a pleasant atmosphere.
